MTV Europe Music Awards
The MTV Europe Music Awards were established in 1994 by MTV Networks Europe to celebrate the most popular music videos in Europe. Originally beginning as an alternative to the American MTV Video Music Awards, the MTV Europe Music Awards is today a popular celebration of what MTV viewers consider the best in music. Unlike the VMAs, most of the awards are voted for by the viewers.
The MTV Europe Music Awards always changes its host city. The United Kingdom has hosted the event three times while Germany has hosted the event for a fourth time in 2009 when the awards were held in Berlin on the 5th November.
The awards are presented annually and broadcast live on MTV Europe, MTV and most of the international MTV channels as well as online.
To date, Eminem has won the most awards with 9 (also one with D12 making it 10) in total. He is followed by Britney Spears with 7 awards, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Dima Bilan, Muse, The Prodigy, and Linkin Park with 5 awards, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Backstreet Boys, Madonna, Robbie Williams, and Coldplay with 4 awards, Tokio Hotel, Limp Bizkit, Spice Girls, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez, Kane, Gorillaz, Oasis, Justice, 30 Seconds to Mars, Green Day, Outkast, and U2 with 3 awards.
